Leandro Jardón González - Reflection #1

My experience I felt overwhelmed on the first day of class when we were assigned group presentations due that same Friday. It seemed like an intense workload for the very first week of the semester. This was my first group project in college, which added to my anxiety. I was especially concerned that my group members might not be committed or engaged. However, to my surprise and relief, everyone contributed equally, and the experience turned out to be positive. In the end, the presentation was a great success, and it helped me ease into the semester feeling more confident about future teamwork. Group 1 - Chapter 3: Intercultural Communication The first presentation was by Group 1, who covered Chapter 3: Intercultural Communication . I found their presentation particularly engaging and informative. One of the most striking points was how the same gestures can carry vastly different meanings depending on the cultural context. For example, I was genuinely shocked to learn that the ...

Slides,  Struggles , and Success!  When I volunteered to become a project manager, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. All I heard from Professor Sherri was “this is something you could put on your résumé” and “you won’t be part of a group; you’ll be helping me”. The idea of some of the workload being lifted off my shoulders intrigued me. I figured that not being part of a specific group would mean less work. I’ve been told that I am a very well-spoken person. I know that I’m a very good group leader and I knew that becoming a “project manager” for this class would make a team leader of sorts, which I was excited about! But I didn’t realize that the workload would be just as taxing as being a regular group member. I underestimated Sherri when she said, “you won’t have more or less work than everyone else”. I had to learn how to work with every single one of my classmates. And it’s safe to say that everyone I worked with for our past presentation were al...

Erik Munoz - Reflection #1

Erik Munoz Reflection #1 Blog                                                                                           Introduction  Communication is more than just talking it's how we connect, solve problems, share ideas, and get through things together. During our class presentations, each group tackled a different side of communication, and the whole experience showed me that working in a group isn’t just about getting the assignment done. It’s about learning how to deal with different personalities, how to be flexible, and how to bring your own strengths to the table while also depending on others. My group focused on families and education, and through working together, I realized how much communication ...

From Teamwork to Takeaways: A Chapter 9 Experience May 22, 2025 By Manuela Buitrago Given the assignment, my very first thought was that it would be difficult to work as a group since everyone has their own ideas and experiences that drive how they consider the subject matter. However, I understand that we as humanity need each other to learn and build a more sustainable civilization; this made me eager to collaborate and explore the chapter in depth to see how my classmates would interpret the topic. This experience wasn’t just about presenting content but rather getting an intimate understanding on leadership, cooperation, trust, learning from others, and working outside my comfort zone. Presenting Chapter 9: Communicating in Groups My group was assigned Chapter 9: Communicating in Groups, from my initial perception, the chapter was rather straightforward. But once we started working as a group, I realized this topic was layered and relatable. This chapter discussed on how communicat...

👀 My Take on the Group Presentations When we were assigned to watch the group presentations and reflect on them, I wasn’t sure what I’d take away from it. But as I watched each one, I actually found myself engaged, curious, and even learning things I didn’t expect. Every group took a different approach, had different energy, and brought something valuable to the table. Whether it was the way they explained a concept, the examples they used, or just the creativity in how they put it all together, I walked away from the experience with a better understanding of communication as a whole. Each group focused on a different chapter, and while the topics were different, the underlying theme was the same: communication matters. In leadership, in group dynamics, and across cultures—it plays a role in everything we do. Here's my honest breakdown of what stood out from each presentation, and how it all connected to what we’ve been learning in class. ✋ Group 1 – Chapter 3: In...

Leading Behind the Scenes -Erika Navarro

Project Manager: Erika Navarro  Leading from Behind the Scenes When I first took on the role of Project Manager for our class presentation, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew I wouldn’t be the one designing slides or speaking for the majority of the presentation, but I figured I’d just be “coordinating things” in the background. What I didn’t realize was how much that behind-the-scenes work would teach me, not just about leadership and communication, but also about how to manage group dynamics, solve problems, and help others shine. This project really opened my eyes to what it means to be an effective team player, especially in a supportive role. My main responsibilities as project manager included guiding my group members through their tasks, helping them find the information they needed, keeping track of deadlines, and making sure our meetings and conversations were productive. I also helped resolve disagreements and acted as the bridge between different perspe...
